My September 2013 Income Report

October 9, 2013 in Goals, Income Reports

Welcome to my September 2013 income report! This is where I total up how much I earn each month through my various online projects. I post my income reports here to keep track of my progress so I can look back and see how I’m doing on the goals I’ve set for myself this year.

A Very Productive Month!

Following a month where I did absolutely nothing on my business, I decided that I needed to make up for a complete month where I slacked off! So in September, I was back on track to create assets that will contribute to my overall future income. Most of these projects I work on don’t have an immediate impact on my income but they do grow over time. That’s why if you want to build an online business, patience is something you’re going to need a lot of!

App Development Delays

At the beginning of September, I was all set to get my Apple Developer’s License and start working on my iPhone app but it has been delayed. Not by me but by Apple and their partner Dun & Bradstreet (D&B). I wanted to register my account as a company but they could not verify some of the information from my company. You can read about all the email transactions I had with D&B here. I think I will be able to re-apply for the developer’s license the first week of October. As of right now, I’m still waiting for the my DUNS number situation to be resolved. I’ve spent almost $600 on a couple of source codes but haven’t done anything with them yet. October will be the month where I think I’ll finally make some progress with my app development goals.

Giving Nook Press A Real Run-Through

I published my first book on Nook Press a few months ago and I deemed the experience a complete failure! I think I’ve had a total of 3 sales at Barnes & Noble so far. So now that my most popular Kindle book is out of the KDP Select program, I’m able to port that title over to Nook Press. I figure that this popular book will also be a great seller at B&N. On the first day, I sold one copy. Hopefully as time goes on, sales of this title will grow like it did in the Kindle Store. I still don’t have a great way to promote Nook Books like I do with my Kindle books. But I do plan on converting all my current and future titles to Nook Press after their enrollment in KDP Select expires. I want to see if I can do at least as good as Kindle sales on the Nook. Using Nook Press is a great way to utilize existing content to bring in an extra stream of income.

Increasing My Production of YouTube Videos

About 3-4 months ago, I finally monetized my YouTube videos. I activated ads on most of my videos and then never really paid attention to it. Partly because I wasn’t able to figure out where to find the income statements for YouTube. However, last month, I figured it out and to my surprise, my YouTube earnings have been growing ever since I monetized. Right now, it’s actually bringing in more than most of my old niche sites without having to do much work!

So I went back and updated all my Income Reports with YouTube earnings. Luckily, it was only a few months worth of updating. But now I see that YouTube is a very viable source of income and it’s easy for me. Since I’m a professional video producer, it makes sense for me to create videos on YouTube. I’ll expand on this more in a future post but from now on, producing new YouTube videos is a monthly priority for me. In September, I produced and uploaded 4 videos. Here’s one of them: Read the rest of this entry →

My August 2013 Income Report

September 7, 2013 in Goals, Income Reports

Welcome to my August 2013 income report! This is where I total up how much I earn each month through my various online projects. I post my income reports here to keep track of my progress so I can look back and see how I’m doing on the goals I’ve set for myself this year.

Another Amazing Month!

I was a bit worried that my August earnings was going to take a bit of a nose dive! But after looking at everything, I’m quite satisfied with my totals. In fact, I’m really amazed at the final total considering I did nothing in August to add new income to my portfolio. That’s partly because I took a one week vacation to Cannon Beach, Oregon right at the beginning of the month and after that, I hit a spell of laziness. But how could I get my head back into work after being around scenery like this?

That photo was from the first night I was there. Now that I’m back, I’m a little disappointed that I just kinda let August go by without doing any work on my business. After all, I made it a point to complete one major project each month that could potentially add to my monthly income. I stuck to that goal until August. But now, I’m ready to start on one of my bigger goals for this year and that’s the one where I build my first iPhone/iPad app.

As a preparation step to my first app, I created a Udemy course called How to Create Top Ranking Mobile App Icons. It’s for app developers and graphic designers and includes a several Photoshop templates to make it easy to create great looking icons. With these templates, anyone can make a great looking icon in about 5 minutes. Keep reading for a special coupon to get 50% off the course! Read the rest of this entry →

My July 2013 Income Report

August 2, 2013 in Goals, Income Reports

Welcome to my July 2013 income report! This is where I report how much I earn each month through my various online projects. I post my income reports here to keep track of my progress so I can look back and see how I’m doing on the goals I’ve set for myself this year.

Another Record Breaking Month!

July was a spectacular month! In fact, I hit another record and getting closer to reaching my goal of generating $1000/month (or $35/day) of passive income by the end of the year. The prior month (June) was my biggest earning month to date but I managed to surpass it this month! How did I do this? Every month, I try to build at least one online asset that will add passive income to my business in the future.

The main project I worked on this month was kind of a big one. In fact, I finished it just a day before the end of the month deadline. I didn’t know what type of project I was going to do so it wasn’t until about mid-July before I started on this project.

So what I did was create a new Udemy course. This course goes right in line with my goal of developing my first iPhone app this year. The course I created is called How to Create Top Ranking Mobile App Icons. It’s for app developers and graphic designers and includes a several Photoshop templates to make it easy to create great looking icons. With these templates, I can make a great looking icon in a couple of minutes. Keep reading for a special coupon to get 50% off the course!

I’m excited to get this course out there because in August, I plan to start work on my iPhone app. I’ve got my game plan and strategy worked out as I get ready to dive into the app business. For now, let’s get down to the income report. Read the rest of this entry →

My June 2013 Income Report

July 9, 2013 in Goals, Income Reports

Welcome to my June 2013 income report! This is where I report how much I earn each month through my various online projects. I post my income reports here to keep track of my progress so I can look back and see how I’m doing on the goals I’ve set for myself this year.

A Record Breaking Month!

June was a spectacular month! In fact, I hit another record and I’m well under way to my to reaching my goal of generating $1000/month (or $35/day) of passive income by the end of the year. I knew that June started out pretty strong but didn’t know I was going to beat my previous record set back in April by so much! How did I do this? Every month, I try to build at least one online asset that will add passive income to my business in the future. So in June, I launched a new niche website and produced 2 new product review videos on YouTube. Since I monetized my YouTube channels, I’m making more of an effort to create video reviews of any gadget I can get my hands on. For me, this is an easy way to generate a little extra income from relatively little work.

Also, back in May, I published a new Kindle book that literally had no sales. I spent $320 to have this book written by a ghost writer and was worried that I had wasted money creating a book that seemed like no one wanted to buy. I waited about a month and a half before I ran my free promotion through KDP Select. Partly, I wanted to see how the book would do without any promotion. I was expecting at least some sales but in reality, no one was buying the book. Finally, I ran a 2 day free giveaway and used the promotion method I wrote about in this post.

After having the book available free for 2 days, it generated 5943 downloads. Subsequenly, in the 11 days that were left in June after the giveaway, this title generated sales of 23 copies and 2 borrows in the Kindle store.  This book is also available as a physical print book and also had no sales before the promotion. After running the free promotion, I was able to sell 5 copies of the print version. Remember, I had no sales before the promotion. I am a believer of using free promotions to kickstart book sales. Now, I’m not worried about covering the costs of hiring the ghost writer because in time, the book will pay for itself. I also received four 5 star reviews for this book… and these weren’t from friends or family!

I priced my book at $3.99 for Kindle version and $11.99 for the print version. That’s quite a difference in cover price but the royalties I receive for each copy sold of the print or Kindle version are roughly the same.

Those were the highlights of the month. I’m sure you’re ready to see the record breaking numbers so let’s get down to the details and income report. Read the rest of this entry →

My May 2013 Income Report

June 14, 2013 in Goals, Income Reports

Welcome to my May 2013 income report! This is where I report how much I earn each month through my various online projects. I post my income reports here to keep track of my progress so I can look back and see how I’m progressing (or regressing) over time.

May was another great month! I fell a little below my earnings from April but not much. I’m still working on my goal of reaching $1000/month (or $35/day) by the end of the year. We’re at mid-year and I’m about 1/2 way to my 2013 income goal. I know I need to continue to work harder and keep adding new assets to my online portfolio if I want to continue to grow my business.

In May, I published a new book and finally monetized my YouTube channels. Let’s take a look at the earnings numbers to see how things panned out! Read the rest of this entry →

My April 2013 Income Report

May 1, 2013 in Goals, Income Reports

Welcome to my April 2013 income report! This is the place where I report how much I make each month through my various online projects. I post my income reports here so that I can keep track of my progress and so that I can look back and see how I’m doing over time.

April was another record setting month! My efforts this year have finally allowed me to break the $500 barrier! For a long time, I never thought this would happen and now I’m half way towards my goal of reaching $1000/month (or $35/day) by the end of the year. In this report, I’m excited to share record breaking sales from Createspace publishing and also see how I did with a new publishing platform over at Barnes & Noble.

I didn’t do a whole lot in terms of any of my online business but was able to maintain and grow my income a little bit. May is going to be a great month because I plan on publishing a new book and trying out a few more things. I’m happy to see that every small thing I do starts adding up! Let’s get to the details! My First Udemy Course Is Live

April 5, 2013 in Goals, Udemy

Make money with UdemyRecently, I discovered a great new resource for online learning at Udemy.com. They feature courses on multiple subjects taught through streaming video. I had taken a few classes myself and soon realized that Udemy is the platform for me to launch my own instructional courses! Keep reading to find out how you can get a huge discount on my course! Up until February, I’ve been launching courses/products with protected membership areas using the popular Profits Theme. Now Profits Theme is very versatile and makes it easy to create membership sites. It connects easily to various payment processors and email auto-responders. I use it with Clickbank and Aweber. However, there are some quirky things about that WordPress theme that causes me stress everytime I set it up.

But now that I’ve launched my first course on Udemy, I know that won’t be using Profits Theme again to sell virtual products. Udemy is so easy to set up and it’s free! So I’m proud to announce my first course offering. Drum roll please!

Bestselling-Kindle-Ebook-Covers2

My first Udemy course is called How To Create Bestselling Kindle Ebook Covers. This is a course that was born out of necessity. This year, I plan on publishing more Kindle books and I wanted a way to quickly build professional looking covers. I know there are lots of people that are doing the same so I decided to offer my templates to other Kindle authors and graphic designers. Read the rest of this entry →

My Business Goals for 2013

March 10, 2013 in Goals

I’ve been meaning to launch Freelance Doodle since January but never got around to it until now. But since it’s still early in the year, I thought I’d start out with my goals for 2013 in my first post. After all, this site is meant to be a journal of my online business activities so I can go back over my notes and learn from what was successful and what was not.

Freelance Doodle

The reason why I didn’t get to building this site out was because I was preparing the launch of my 2nd virtual product. I had been working on and off of it for the past year and slowly it reached completion with a big effort to finish it at the end of 2012. I finally completed this project and launched it in mid-January. I’ve found that creating my own products is much more enjoyable than creating multiple niche websites. And this leads me to my goals for 2013.

Virtual Products

This year, I hope to create more virtual products to add to my portfolio. My previous products were built upon the Profits Theme platform which facilitates the creation of paid membership sites. Even though I’m an experienced WordPress user, I still have some trouble setting up this theme properly. I eventually figure it out but not without a lot of trial and error. And occasionally I’ll have a customer email me about a problem they’re having after payment. Even so, Profits Theme helps me link to Clickbank as my payment gateway and I really like that integration.

With that said, I have decided to move to a new hosted platform for my products. That platform is Udemy.com.
