How Long Does It Take To Update a Createspace Book and Cover

About 2 years ago, I self-published my first 3 books and sold them on Kindle and Createspace. These three books are part of a series… and little did I know back then that writing a series was the way to go. However, those books have become my top selling books. Recently, I got back into publishing and added 2 more titles to this series. However, the newest books had cover designs that were more modern and clean looking. That meant I had to update the old covers so they all look like they’re part of the same series.

Having never updated my books before, I didn’t know how long the process would take. My main concern was the time it takes for the Createspace book to get updated on Amazon. Because of this concern, I decided to experiment with one of my books that has pretty much zero sales. This way I’ll know what to expect when I begin to update my books that do sell.

I’m writing this post as a reference for me and anyone else who might be curious how long the process will take. For this experiment, I made minor modifications to my book cover so I can immediately tell when the update is complete on Createspace and eventually Amazon.


On Thursday at 3pm, I logged into my Createspace Dashboard and selected the book I wanted to update. On the next page, I clicked on the Cover link in the Setup column. Then on the Cover details page, I clicked on the Change button in the Changes section. from there, I uploaded my new cover.

I then did a search on the Createspace store and immediately found that my book was no longer found in the search results. I then went to Amazon and searched for my book. The Amazon search results still showed my original book as available for sale.

But that night I got back on the computer at 11pm and searched for my book on Amazon. I was surprised that the updated cover was actually showing on the Amazon search results page but it really wasn’t updated yet. When I clicked to view the actual product page for my book, the old cover was still there.


The next day about 15 hours later at 5:30am, I got an email from Createspace saying My proof is ready to order. For this book, I am not going to order a proof since I didn’t change the interior and I was confident that my cover file is ok. At 10am, I finally got around to my computer and approved the proof.

I immediately did a search on the Createspace store and was able to verify that the updated book was available for sale at that time.

From the last pop-up screen during the approval process, it says that the files will appear on Amazon in 3-5 business days. So that’s the time frame I was expecting. That night I got back on the computer at 11pm and checked my book on Amazon. I was surprised that the updated cover was showing up on an Amazon search page… but it really wasn’t updated yet.

How To Market Your Kindle Book And Generate Sales

How to market your Kindle bookGetting a Kindle book written is easy. You can write it yourself or hire someone write it for you. I’ve done both. But getting people to buy your book is not so easy. This post isn’t about how to pick the right topic (although that is extremely important), instead I’ll focus on how to jump start sales of a freshly published Kindle book on Amazon. The method I’m going to talk about is the same method I’ve done for all my books. I’m going to use examples from my latest book to illustrate what I did to go from no sales to some sales. Notice that I didn’t say “from no sales to spectacular sales”. I’ve never experienced spectacular sales but my books do manage to maintain a certain sales volume month after month. This is nice because I’ve done all the work publishing the book and now it becomes another passive income generating asset in my business.

Promoting My Latest Book

So last month, I published a new Kindle book. I hired a freelancer on Elance back in February to write the book for me. When I got the completed book, it was great except that after a few days of reading it over, there were some things I needed changed. I paid the writer her fee because she did exactly what I described in my job posting. but I knew I needed to modify a few things before I was willing to publish it. So it took me a few months to get around to re-writing and taking all new photos myself. Finally the copy was how I wanted it.

Before I continue, you may or may not know that when I publish a Kindle book, I also publish a print version as well through Createspace for the reasons I stated here. So when I got my books approved on Amazon and Createspace, I was hoping for big sales. I did get 2 Kindle sales on the first day but from that point on, there were no sales at all! How I Doubled Sales Of My Self Published Books

Createspace-Print-On-Demand-PublishingI’m still new to the world of self-publishing and I don’t sell that many books. However, I’m learning more and more as time goes on. Today, I wanted to share with you a major discovery I made last month. I was able to double the sales of my self-published books on The best part of this story is that I didn’t have to write new books to do this! I’m using a strategy you might already be doing or this might be the first time you’re hearing about it. But the main thing I want you to take away from this post is the power of reusing or repurposing content you already have. So what did I do to double my March book sales? Createspace is a company that produces print-on-demand books and is owned by Because they are owned by Amazon, integration between Kindle ebooks and their print versions from Createspace is seamless. Making a print book isn’t too difficult, but as a first-timer, it did take me awhile to get used to all the proofing and formating required to get a professional looking book. There were many things I learned while editing the digital proofs. How To Add Page Numbers To A PDF Book For Createspace

Adding Page Numbers to PDF FileBack in January, I spent about 3 weeks painstakingly reformatting 3 of my Kindle books for the Createspace platform. For those of you who don’t know what Createspace is, it’s Amazon’s print-on-demand book service which allows anyone to publish printed books that can be sold on Amazon’s website. The best part is that publishing on Createspace is free so why not take advantage of this extra sales channel? It took a bit longer to finish reformatting my books than I thought. I also had to recreate my covers in 300dpi for print. When I was finished, I had one high-resolution JPEG image for my front and back cover and a PDF file for the content of the book.

As part of the review process before I actually publish my books and let people buy them, I ordered physical proofs. I won’t get into the editing of those proofs in this article but I do want to point out something I noticed when I had the actual printed book in my hands. There were no page numbers on the bottom of the pages. My content was created in Microsoft Word and getting page numbers to show up was not a problem, except they appeared on every page of the book. Something I didn’t want. I only wanted my page numbers to start where Chapter 1 starts. Not on copyright pages or the Table of Contents. How To Link Kindle eBook to Print Version On Amazon

Linking Amazon to CreatespaceLast month, I was looking for something productive to do in my business. There were many things I could’ve done like write a new blog post, create a new video tutorial, review a product, fine tune my WordPress websites, etc. However, I did none of those. I wanted to do something that would have a direct impact on monthly earnings. So after quite a bit of thought, I decided to turn my Kindle ebooks into print books. I was happy I decided to do this because it did not take much energy and zero dollars to convert my books to print. Amazon made it easy to do with their Createspace service.

Createspace allowed me create print-on-demand books that have a very professional look to them! The process was fairly simple but for this article, I want to focus on how to get your Kindle ebooks linked to your physical books no matter if you use Createspace or another print publisher. The best way to do that is to tell you through my experience with this process. I released 3 of my print books on Amazon in the same week. I knew that the title and author had to match exactly for Amazon to automatically link the books. That wasn’t a problem for my last 2 books. Those last 2 titles were automatically linked almost immediately.

But for the very first book, I had entered slightly different title names and that was enough to disable automatic linking for this title. Here’s what happened. On my Kindle book, I included my subtitle in the Main Title of the book. This is because when posting a book on Amazon KDP, there is no field to enter a separate subtitle. On Createspace however, there are separate fields for Main Title and Subtitle.

Because the main title of my Kindle book included the subtitle, it didn’t match my Createspace version which only had the main title as the main title. The subtitle was on another line or section. I believe this was the main reason why this one book wasn’t automatically linked.

Of course I wanted my versions linked so I found out that you have to contact Amazon and let them know you want your titles linked. I think I waited 5 days before I contacted them because I just wanted to be sure it wasn’t going to link on it’s own.
