Monthly Income Report

Welcome to my online income report for November 2015. It seems I’ve been busy working on things but my income sure doesn’t show it. I’ve been holding at about $700 a month for quite awhile and can’t seem to make that number go up. I have topped out even though I am working on things. However, my earnings are completely passive again which is a good thing!

Back in September, I hired a freelance writer on Upwork (formerly Elance/Odesk) to write a book for me. However, 2 months later that writer didn’t produce anything. The communication was very sparse. It took her 2 weeks to respond each time I contacted her and then at the end she didn’t respond at all. The writer agreed to have the project done 2 weeks after I awarded her the project. So I ended the contract. Fortunately I got my money refunded and she admitted to have taken on too many jobs at one time. So now I’m looking to hire someone for another book.

I’m kinda glad this one didn’t work out because I lost interest in the topic. I now have a new topic I’m writing on. In less time than it took for me to hire and fire the freelancer, I wrote my own 16,000+ page book on a topic that I currently have an interest in. Plus this new topic is open to lots of titles that I can already list.

I’m also finishing a new iPhone app that will be available in December. This took a lot of my time which meant that my book did not get completely finished. The cover design still needs to be done and then the book can be uploaded.

I also produced some more YouTube videos. For one of my videos, I experimented using a cell phone to shoot the entire video. I think it looked pretty good. Here’s the video I shot using a Nokia Lumia 520 cell phone.

That’s about it for now. Let’s get to the income report!

Want to Make Money by Self-Publishing?

If you read my income reports regularly, you might have noticed where the majority of my income comes from. It’s from self-publishing! This has become one of the main areas I focus on these days. I’ve tried lots of different ways to make money online and publishing has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done.

There are many reasons that self-publishing fits into my business plan but among the top reasons are:

  • Easy to write
  • Can hire writers
  • I can create covers myself
  • Little to no maintenance

While those tasks are enjoyable, marketing your books is not always fun. It can be hard to find reputable promotion services which don’t cost a ton of money especially when starting out. The good news is that there is a free service that promotes your books and they generate results. Not everyone can get in, but Buck Books has risen to become one of the top promotion services for Kindle books.

Buck Books sends out daily emails and also posts a handful of books on their homepage for readers looking for deals on ebooks. Their service is quite popular and it’s hard to get listed on their promotions but you have to keep trying. You may have a better chance by giving several weeks notice of your book promotion. And also, they mainly promote $0.99 books so your book will have to be enrolled in KDP Select in order to run a $0.99 Countdown Deal.
